The executive committee of the Russian Football Union (RFU) on Tuesday approved the preservation of the current format of the Russian Premier League (RPL) for the 2022/23 season in two rounds with the participation of 16 clubs, the press service of the organization reports.
Earlier, the RPL clubs at a general meeting asked the RFU to impose a moratorium on relegation at the end of the 2021/22 season and expand the league to 18 teams.
Thus, the Tula "Arsenal" and the Kazan "Rubin" left the RPL and will go to the FNL, they will be replaced by the Moscow "Torpedo" and the Voronezh "Torch". Moscow region Khimki and Ufa will play in play-offs for the right to remain in the RPL against SKA-Khabarovsk and Orenburg, respectively. The play-offs will take place on 25 and 28 May.
